600 hutments gutted after power line falls down

The transmission line fell down on the slum near Dairy Farm in Ghazipur at around 2:30 pm, fire brigade and power department officials said. Two persons suffered minor injuries in the incident and were discharged from hospital after treatment.

Twenty-one fire tenders were rushed to the spot which doused the flames in three hours. The fire brigade officials said 600 hutments were destroyed in the fire. A BSES spokesperson said the high tension wire of UP Transco Corporation Limited (UPTCL) passing through Ghazipur fell down after a conductor snapped due to some technical problems.

All efforts are being made to ensure that supply of power to BSES areas is not affected, the BSES official said.Power supply in the nearby areas were discontinued by BSES as a precautionary measure.
