In an act of sheer grit and determination, a 74-year-old woman from Pune recently scaled Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, reports DHNS from Mumbai.

The founder of Giripremi, a mountaineering institute, Ushaprabha Page was accompanied by her son Navendu and daughter Girija on her expedition to scale the 5,895-metre tall mountain in Tanzania.
Ushaprabha has been an active mountaineer for more than four decades.

“Page has played a vital role in developing mountaineering in Maharashtra. Her family has accompanied her to scale several peaks, and Kilimanjaro is among them,” a Giripremi spokesperson said.

People from all over the state have showered praises on Ushaprabha for successfully scaling a difficult peak at 74.

Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano and its top is covered with snow.
