Khojtaba Bibim, an 80-year-old woman, trekked a long distance to donate blood for victims and became an icon in Suri. Having learnt about the train accident, she decided to lend a helping hand, not knowing initially that she would be joining the band of good Samaritans there. On reaching the site, she came to know about the shortage of blood and headed straight to the Suri district hospital.
“I have come to donate blood for injured passengers who are admitted to hospital. I will die someday but before I do, I want to have the satisfaction that I could save at least one precious life,” said Khojtaba.
She was seen pleading with medical officers to allow her to give blood. However, she returned disappointed as the hospital authorities said existing rules did not permit them to take blood from a person of her age. Nevertheless, her valiant act injected spirit among many who thereafter came forward to donate blood.
