Voting for Delhi MCD poll under way: Will BJP reign over civic body or will Kejriwal's AAP sweep polls?
After the rigorous campaigning and muckraking that took place in the past weeks, Delhi is all set for elections to the the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Apart from corruption, alcohol, pollution and garbage are major issues that have been raked by parties.While the BJP and the AAP have fielded 250 candidates each, Congress is contesting in 247 seats. Half of the 250 seats have been reserved for women.

Feel empowered after voting, say differently-abled voters
Being wheelchair bound or walking with crutches was not a deterrent for differently-abled Delhi residents who enthusiastically arrived at the polling booths on Sunday to make their vote count for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election. Praveen (56), whose family brought him to the booth on a wheelchair, said, "Every vote matters".
"Everyone should come out and exercise their right. Cleanliness was the main issue on my mind when I cast my vote," he said. Hari Om (70) arrived at the polling booth holding crutches."There are many issues in our area and I don't know whether they will be addressed. But I knew I had to ensure that my vote counts," he said.

According to data shared by State Election Commission officials, the total number of voters in Delhi is 1,45,05,358 -- 78,93,418 males, 66,10,879 females and 1,061 transgender persons. There are 1,349 candidates in the fray and votes will be counted on December 7.

The Aam Aadmi Party looking to wrest power from the BJP, while the saffron party is eying its fourth consecutive time at the civic body.
