AAP wins 5 wards in civic byelections

 Aam Aadmi Party won in 5 wards in the municipal corporation by-elections, Congress got 4 and the BJP 3 wards, according to the results declared on Tuesday.

Soon after the declaration of the results, an independent candidate joined the Congress, taking its total tally also to five.

Out of the 13 wards for which bypolls were held on Sunday, 7 were earlier held by the Bharatiya Janata Party, one by Rashtriya Lok Dal, and 5 by independents.

Despite the bypoll loses, BJP still retains control of Delhi’s 3 municipal corporations.
As many as 3,06,677 voters exercised their franchise with 2,332 opting for none of the above or NOTA option.

While AAP won Ballimaran, Vikas Nagar, Matiala, Nanakpura and Tehkhand wards, Congress came out victorious in Qamaruddin Nagar, Munirka, Khichri Pur and Jhilmil wards.

The BJP managed wins in Shalimar Bagh North, Wazirpur and Nawada wards. Rajender Singh Tanwar, the independent candidate and a rebel Congress member, has been elected as municipal councillor from Bhati.
