A large voter turnout was recorded in the by-elections to the three West Bengal Assembly constituencies on Saturday.

According to a poll official, nearly 70 per cent of voting was recorded in the three constituencies. “It is not possible to say the exact figure right now but so far more than 70 per cent polling was recorded in the assembly constituencies,” an election commission official told Deccan Herald.

By-elections are being held at Nalhati in Birbhum district, which fell vacant after Abhijit Mukherjee was elected to Parliament from the Jangipur parliamentary seat, represented by his father Pranab Mukherjee who became President last year.
