Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Tuesday once again stirred up a controversy questioning the hanging of Afzal Guru who was convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case.

“I was very upset over Afzal Guru being hanged. There was no evidence to hang Afzal Guru. It was unjust to hang Afzal Guru,” Aiyar told reporters. He also favoured handing over the mortal remains of Afzal to his family members. “What is the problem in bringing Guru’s remains to Kashmir,” he asked.

The Congress has distanced itself from Aiyar’s remarks. “The then UPA government had executed judicial orders,” spokesperson Ajoy Kumar asked.
