BJP president Amit Shah made his debut in Rajya Sabha on Friday.

Shah, who was elected to Rajya Sabha in August, entered the House just minutes before the proceedings began amid cheering by BJP members.

The ruling party MPs stood up to welcome Shah. Some of them thumped the desks  while   others clapped their hands.

He occupied seat No 24, which was earlier assigned to M Venkaiah Naidu, who rose to become the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman.  Shah has been allocated the aisle seat right next to the two-seat block where Leader of the House and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Prime Minister Narendra Modi sit.

Shah initially sifted through parliamentary papers as the proceedings started and he was later seen writing something on his notepad.

There were changes in seats of some other members. JD(U) members have moved nearer to the treasury benches since Nitish Kumar broke ranks with Lalu Prasad's RJD and joined the National Democratic Alliance.
