Hyderabad: In a major tragedy in Andhra Pradesh Kurnool district, six children drowned in a water pond in Chigili village of Aspari mandal. All victims were fifth-grade students who had gone for a swim after school hours.
According to reports Seven students attended school on Monday morning as usual. However, after classes ended in the evening, instead of returning home, six of them headed straight to a water pond near the village for a swim. One student, frightened by the prospect, remained on the shore and did not enter the water.
Tragically, all six children who entered the pond drowned. The boy who stayed outside raised an alarm, prompting villagers to rush to the scene. A local shepherd helped retrieve the bodies from the water, police said.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound shock over the tragic deaths. In his condolence message, Naidu described the incident as extremely unfortunate and said the loss of children with such promising futures has left an irreparable wound in their families' hearts.
Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic death of six schoolchildren in Kurnool district.
He said it was extremely heartbreaking that the students lost their lives after accidentally drowning in a water pond while they had gone swimming. Calling it a painful incident, he stated that young students with bright futures ahead losing their lives in such a manner is very distressing.
