Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old youth, addicted to online games allegedly killed his mother for denying him a laptop to play games in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam.
The victim, identified as one Alka Singh, 47, was living in the Coast Guard quarters in Malkapuram. Visakhapatnam, with her husband Balbir Singh and two children.
Balbir Singh works as a commandant in the Indian Coast Guard and was recently posted in Odisha. Two days ago, when the couple saw their son Anmol Singh, who is pursuing BTech, playing online games, they took away his laptop.
Meanwhile, the husband went to Odisha as part of his job.
“We came to know Alka Singh was murdered and rushed to the spot. The body was found in a pool of blood. Our preliminary investigation suggests that her son, Anmol Singh, killed her with a sharp object. His mother has been warning him to stay away from playing online games and took away his laptop, which is said to have enraged him and killed her. An investigation is underway in the case. We will be able to say the exact reason for the murder after the investigation,” said Malkapuram SHO, S Vidysagar.
Sources in the police department said Anmol Singh studies BTech at a private college in Hyderabad and visits his parents regularly in Visakhapatnam. He also reportedly suffers from bipolar disorder.
On Thursday night, the mother and son were engaged in a heated argument over the laptop. The argument led to a physical altercation and in a fit of rage, Anmol stabbed her mother using a kitchen knife. After stabbing her Anmol closed the room and fled from the scene.
His younger brother, Ayushman Singh, who returned home after attending his tuition classes, was shocked to see his mother dead and alerted the neighbours and his father.
Malkapuram police registered the case and are investigating.
