After Sir C V Raman and Subrahmanyam Chandrasekhar, who also had their roots in Tamil Nadu, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan being the third from the State to win a Nobel Prize, has made not just Tamil Nadu but “entire Tamil society proud”, Karunanidhi said.
One of Venkatraman’s Physics teachers at the Annamalai University, S Govindarajan recalled that the former was at there for his one-year Pre-University Course (PUC) during 1968-69, before he moved over to the MS University in Baroda for his Degree programme.
“But we are still verifying the records as Venkatraman Ramakrishnan had left Chidambaram 40 years back,” the Annamalai University Registrar, Prof Rathnasabapathy told Deccan Herald over telephone on Thursday. “We are making all out efforts to get the details of Venky’s student days here as it is also a proud moment for us; We are trying to get in touch with the Nobel scientist directly at Cambridge,” he added.
Meanwhile, reports reaching Chennai on Thrusday said the Indian-American Nobel Prize winner has told BBC Radio that he had left Chidambaram for Baroda when he was three years old.
