Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday alleged that extremist outfits like the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) were trying to create trouble during the anti-CAA stirs in Kerala.
Incidentally, the senior CPM leader's accusation of SDPI, which is linked to Popular Front of India, came hardly two days after the SDPI organised a massive demonstration against CAA in Thiruvananthapuram that witnessed participation of thousands of Muslims, including youth and women . Bhim Army leader Chandrasekhara Azad, inaugurated the event.
The Chief Minister's accusation against SDPI came in the Assembly when the opposition Congress alleged of police cases against anti-CAA stirs in Kerala. Outfits like the SDPI that got extremist nature were trying to create tension by using the anti-CAA stirs. This won't be allowed, the Chief Minister said.
While several SDPI workers were reportedly held in various parts of the state in connection with a hartal and demonstrations against CAA, the SDPI leadership maintained that many were fake ones.
SDPI Kerala State President Abdul Majeed Faizy said that the CPM was quite wary of the support that the anti-CAA demonstrations by the SDPI were gaining from the Muslim community, especially from women and youth. Hence false charges of SDPI trying to create trouble were being raised.
While the Assembly witnessed allegations and counter allegation of the CPM and the Congress of seeking SDPI's support during electoral politics, the fact was that both the CPM and the Congress used to local electoral understandings with SDPI to tap Muslim votes.
