Union Defence Minister A K Antony on Sunday said he was not aware of any discussion in the party high command on a change of leadership in the Kerala government.
Antony said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had already apprised Congress president Sonia Gandhi of the situation in Kerala in the backdrop of the solar panel fraud and, to his knowledge, there was no move to effect a leadership change or cabinet reshuffle in the state.
“A police investigation is on. Opposition parties should have the patience to wait for the outcome. There’s a need to exercise greater caution in matters of governance, but there is no room for talks on changing leadership here,” he said.
Antony said issues pertaining to party affairs in the state had to be sorted out within the state. Responding to a query on the impact of the solar scam on the United Democratic Front government’s credibility, the minister said he was “not a judge” to make a comment.
In the state party ranks, however, things are still far from rosy for the beleaguered Chandy.
Following guarded words of conditional back-up from Congress’ strongest ally, the Indian Union Muslim League, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan has now criticised the manner in which the investigation was being conducted.
