AP capital to be named Amaravati

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to name its new capital spread over 29 villages of Guntur district after the historic and religious capital Amaravati.

According to sources, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wanted to make this announcement during the official Ugadi celebrations at Thullur village itself but due to election code, it was kept pending. The government has pooled 33,000 acres for the new capital from 29 villages of Mangalagiri, Thullur and Undavalli mandals. Singapore is to design and Japanese builders will take up work at a cost of Rs 27,000 crore
