The recent Andhra Pradesh government order to municipal authorities to remove political and other prominent figures’ unauthorised statues from public spaces has rattled the YSR Congress.
The party believes the order is aimed at removing statues of former chief minister, late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.
The TDP government on Friday directed district authorities to remove statues and flex banners of prominent political personalities from roads, parks and other public spaces in 15 days.
Speaking to mediapersons at the party office, YSRC spokesman Ambati Rambabu told the government not to shift or remove YSR’s statues. “We will resist any move by the authorities to remove our leader’s statue. We dare them to touch the statues,” Rambabu said.
The YSRC has erected numerous statues of YSR after his tragic death five years ago in a helicopter crash.
YSR’s son and party president Jaganmohan Reddy, his mother Vijayamma and sister Sharmila unveiled hundreds of statues of YSR during the “Odarpu Yatra” that they undertook to console those died grieving the death of their leader.
