Chief of Army Staff Gen Bikram Singh on Wednesday will be only the second Army chief in a decade to pay an official visit to  China to take forward the budding military relations between the two Asian powers, who fought each other in 1962.

The rare visit by an Indian Army chief to the Communist country comes within days of Vice President Hamid Ansari’s tour and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi’s engagement with Narendra Modi government as the special envoy of President Xi Jinping last month.

Gen Singh – India’s senior most military officer, who is the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee – would meet Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao and Vice President of the Central Military Commission Gen Fan Changlong, besides other top officials from the People’s Liberation Army.
