The Army today foiled an infiltration bid of heavily armed terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu, a day after the BSF thwarted a similar such attempt via the International Border (IB) in Kathua district.

"An infiltration bid was foiled by the alert and vigilant troops of Army in the densely forest area along LoC in the Poonch sector this morning", a defence spokesman said.

He said that on noticing some suspicious activity, the alert troops challenged a group of 2-3 infiltrators who were attempting to cross the LoC.

"On being challenged, the group immediately opened fire (on the Army) which was responded in equal measure by the alert troops forcing the group to flee back", the spokesman said.

Yesterday, with Pakistani troops suspectedly providing cover fire, 4-6 heavily-armed militants tried to sneak into India through the International Border in Kathua district of Jammu but the attempt was foiled by alert BSF which claimed to have injured or killed at least one of them.
