Assam flood worsens; Delhi to get more rain

 Flood situation in Assam worsened on Saturday, amid slight rise in temperature in the north and predictions of rain in the national capital.

Floods hit over 87,500 people in Lakhimpur, Karimganj and Sonitpur districts in Assam, with State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) declaring that 131 villages have been submerged and crops in thousands of hectares have been damaged.

Till Friday, a little over 82,000 people were hit by the flood. Around 500 people are taking shelter at relief camps in Karimganj district, officials said.

The ASDMA said local people have recovered the body of a woman washed away by Ranganadi flood waters on May 31. The woman was identified as Pallabi Saikia (32) from Nowboicha.

Meanwhile, south and central Gujarat is receiving heavy rainfall over the last two days, with the met department forecasting more rain in the coming days.

The department also said monsoon has advanced further in Saurashtra. Vadodara, Valsad and Vallabh Vidyanagar are among the cities that received heavy rain.
