The Assam government has cleared the deck for setting up of six mega projects in the state.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday held a high-powered committee meeting with top officials in the premises of the Assembly to clear the deck for six projects.

The decision comes a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Centre wants to tab the water and natural resources of Assam and turn it into an industrial hub.

According to government sources, Gogoi led a discussion involving an investment to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore. The meeting also decided to accord mega status to all the projects. Modalities have also been cleared to pave a way for the projects. The projects are expected to generate direct employment of around 20,000 and indirect employment nearly one lakh.
