Sources in the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, where Baba is being treated since March 28, told Deccan Herald that the doctors treating him may consider removing the ventilator support system.
“The ventilator, doctors said, could be removed in the coming two days if he (Sai Baba) continues to respond the way he is doing now,” they said.
Baba has been on ventilator support since April 4. His health has been slowly but steadily improving since Thursday.
Positive sign
Another positive improvement was that the doctors have stopped the continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) which was aiding the functioning of the kidneys.
Hospital Director A N Safaya, in an official bulletin said: “There is a perceptible improvement in the functioning of the kidney and thereby, he is now on intermittent low hemodialysis and not a 24-hour dialysis.”
Some life-saving drugs also reportedly reached the hospital on Friday.
Still on medication
However Baba is still on medication to help him maintain his pulse rate and blood pressure. The godman’s body temperature has been fluctuating, which the doctors feel is common.
All other vital parameters are satisfactory, according to the doctors.
Meanwhile, 60 per cent of the police personnel deployed here have been called back and only the personnel from Ananthpur District have been asked to stay put.
“Even if Baba’s condition has improved, there will be a lot of VIPs and devotees who will visit him. We have to be prepared for any eventuality,” sources from the hospital said.
