Basu stable, may be discharged tomorrow

“The medical review has disclosed that the patient slept normally on Friday night and had adequate food. Today (Saturday), we will be mobilising him out of bed,” the hospital spokesman told reporters.

The 96-year-old patriarch of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), who was admitted to hospital following gastro-intestinal complications and transient loss of consciousness last Sunday, was shifted out of the intensive cardiac care unit (ICCU) to a room on Tuesday as his condition improved.

Earlier in the day, Basu’s personal assistant Joykrishna Ghosh said his condition was stable. The hospital spokesman added: “We may release him on Monday after his condition is reviewed once again.”Basu injured his left leg after another fall at his home on May 13.
