The beheaded body was first spotted by the temple priest. Villagers rushed to the temple when he raised a hue and cry on seeing the ghastly body lying in front of the altar meant for animal sacrifice. Burnt incense sticks were also found in the temple.
The owner of the house was detained, but the identity of the victim is yet to be established. Wednesday was new moon day and police believe that a tantrik might have performed this heinous crime to appease the goddess.
