The Bombay High Court on Friday granted bail to senior NCP leader and former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal who was arrested in corruption cases.
Bhujbal, 70, a prominent OBC leader, is also the founder-President of the Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad.
Bhujbal, a sitting MLA from Yeola in Nashik district, was arrested in March 2016.
When Bhujbal was PWD Minister, the Maharashtra government entered into a contract for the construction of a new Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi. It was later converted into a Build Operate & Transfer (BOT) project.
The department subsequently clubbed other PWD projects in Mumbai like the High Mount Government Guest House, Malabar Hill and RTO Office at Andheri with the New Delhi project.
Bhujbal has been in and out of hospitals and has managed to stay out of jail for weeks at a time.
"It is a welcome decision," said NCP chief spokesperson Nawab Malik. "I thank the judiciary from the bottom of my heart," said NCP MP Supriya Sule said.
