The Jharkhand High Court on Friday gave an interim relief to RJD president Lalu Prasad by granting him a six-week provisional bail on medical grounds.

Lalu, who was granted a three-day parole by the Jharkhand IG (Prisons) on Thursday, is currently in Patna to attend his elder son Tej Pratap’s wedding on Saturday.

Legal experts say once his parole is over, Lalu will have to appear in Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Jail, following which he will be granted a six-week provisional bail on medical grounds.

The court has reportedly laid down the condition that Lalu should not hold any political rally during the bail period.

Appearing on behalf of Lalu, senior Congress MP and veteran lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi prayed before the court for a 12-week provisional bail so that he could get his kidney treated at a prominent hospital in Gurugram (Haryana) and seek treatment for a heart ailment at a Mumbai hospital.

However, the court granted only a six-week relief.

Ramdev on RJD chief

Lalu was holding a conversation with yoga guru Baba Ramdev when the news from Jharkhand High Court reached here.

Ramdev, an old family friend of Lalu, has especially flown in to attend Tej Pratap’s wedding.

“The court relief was expected. And why should not Laluji get relief from HC? Is he a terrorist?,” said Ramdev in Patna on Friday.

Rahul, Priyanka to attend wedding

Meanwhile, sources in Lalu’s family confirmed that Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Vadra will attend Tej Pratap’s wedding on Saturday.

Other VIPs, who are likely to grace the occasion, include Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh.
