Hitting out at the BJP, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Bansal and Law Minister Salman Khursheed said the ‘obstructionist approach’ of the main opposition had already resulted in 13 of the 21 days sittings being disrupted during the ongoing monsoon session.
“Because of the intransigent attitude of the BJP, we could not pass several bills. We have passed only seven bills while there are 24 bills still to be taken up.
“There are many important bills pending and they include draft legislations on land acquisition, national institute of technology, copyright, customs, seeds, education tribunal, pesticides, reforms in co-operative societies, women’s reservation in panchayats etc”, Bansal said.
Unnecessary disruption
The minister added that Parliament had been disrupted for no reason.
“On August 30, they raked up the Gujarat Lokayukta issue. Although there is no provision in the constitution or rules, we agreed for the issue to be taken up. On September 2, we made a statement on the Punjab issue but they continued to disrupt the House. They did not allow the Rajya Sabha to function for the entire day.”
