The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded a probe into former home secretary R K Singh’s allegation that Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde had scuttled the investigation against an aide of Dawood Ibrahim, who is wanted by the Delhi Police in the IPL fixing scandal.

R K Singh, who had a bad equation with Shinde during his tenure as home secretary, joined the BJP after his retirement in June.

“After inquiry, if he (Shinde) is found to have intervened as there is contemporaneous evidence of the home secretary saying so, he must be sacked. He has no political, moral or legal authority to remain as home minister even for a moment,” BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad said.

The Congress, however, wanted to know why Singh was going public with these details now. “Why did he not put it on record when he was in service? Why did he not meet the cabinet secretary and prime minister,” asked Manish Tewari.
