Four Union ministers took to Delhi’s streets on Thursday to launch the BJP’s ‘Save Bengal’ campaign against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “appeasement politics”.

Union Ministers Harsh Vardhan, Smriti Irani, S S Ahluwalia and Babul Supriyo were joined by BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi to start the campaign from Raj Ghat in the afternoon.

With the police denying permission, ministers and leaders took a jibe at the TMC government over what it said was large-scale communal violence and Mamata’s “appeasement politics”.

A day ago, Meenakshi had charged the TMC government of “two-fold politics of appeasement and repression”, which they said was manifested in the recent communal bouts in Basirhat.

The BJP has been claiming that Hindus were at the receiving end in the violence.

Earlier, the BJP had sent a delegation to the violence-hit areas of West Bengal for an on-the-spot study of the situation.

Last week, the delegation was stopped from entering the riot zones and areas by the local administration.
