Blast inside police station in Srinagar: 7 cops injured

Seven policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were injured when a grenade exploded inside a police station here on Tuesday during an inspection of seized ammunition by the bomb disposal squad (BDS) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Dy SP Manoj Pandita, in charge of police media centre, told Deccan Herald that during deactivation of a hand grenade by BDS at Police Station Parimpora, the fuse exploded in the hand of one of the personnel. Seven policemen, including one inspector, one sub inspector, one assistant sub inspector and two BDS personnel were injured in the blast, he added.

Inspector General Police Kashmir, Abdul Gani Mir said the BDS was defusing explosives seized during a recent clash between militants and the troops.

Sources said the ammunition which the BDS was inspecting had been seized from the killed fidayeen who had attacked a CRPF camp in Bemina on March 13.
