This was the first terror-related case in Kerala in which the National Investigation Agency has filed a charge sheet. The blasts in March 2006 had left two policemen and a porter injured.

The CBI Special court in Kochi which is the designated court hearing NIA cases, however, acquitted two other accused on the benefit of doubt and for want of evidence.

The punishment will be pronounced on Friday. The NIA had filed the charge sheet in August last year against eight men with Nazeer as prime accused. One of the accused was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kashmir while another accused Shammi Firoz was made an approver.

Two others are yet to be traced. In another development, the Kerala High Court dismissed a petition by Nazeer and other accused to stay the pronouncement of the judgment. Nazeer is also an accused in the burning of a Tamil Nadu state bus in 2005 in Kochi by suspected PDP activists.
