Recovery of over 100 bodies in the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district has triggered a political storm with rival parties exchanging salvos over the issue.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan accused the controversial BJP MP from Unnao, Sakshi Maharaj, of dumping the bodies in the river to “tarnish the image of the state government”.

“Sakshi Maharaj brought bodies in trucks and dumped them in the river to tarnish the image of the UP government and foment communal tension in the state,” Khan alleged.

“He (Sakshi) must explain where he got these bodies from,” the minister said, adding that it was the BJP MP who had gotten the information about the bodies in the river first.

Saskhi  Maharaj, on the other hand, demanded a CBI probe into the recovery of the bodies.
“A thorough probe must be conducted into the matter so that the truth comes out”, he said in Unnao.
