The counting of votes will be held on June 23 for two seats -- Kadi and Visavadar -- in Gujarat, Ludhiana West in Punjab, Nilambur in Kerala and Kaliganj in West Bengal. The campaigning for the bypolls ended on Tuesday evening with contesting parties expressing confidence that they would emerge victorious in the 'people's court'.
The publication of the poll was allegedly carried out in violation of the guidelines issued by the Election Commission, which prohibits the publication or broadcasting of opinion polls in electronic media during the restricted period (48 hours prior to close of poll).
While Congress stated that it was CPI(M)'s bid to get the support of BJP-RSS in the bypoll that is to be held on Thursday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan made a damage control move by listing earlier instances of Congress leaders palling with BJP-RSS.
Senior TMC leader and minister Chandrima Bhattacharya claimed a Gujarat-based company was awarded the tender in a non-transparent manner, not just for the bypoll but also for the entire 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
