The CBI has summoned Anand Joshi, an under secretary in the home ministry, for questioning on Wednesday in a case of corruption and missing files related to NGOs’ foreign fundings.

The summons came a day after the agency registered a case against him and unknown people and conducted searches at the premises related to Joshi. The case was registered under criminal conspiracy and relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Joshi was accused of indulging in corruption and arbitrarily issuing notices to large number of NGOs registered under FCRA who had been receiving significant amount of foreign contribution.

The CBI has claimed that Joshi obtained “illegal gratification from some of these organisations, which were laundered through various immovable assets as well as certain private companies”.
