Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) anti-corruption branch in Bangalore have revealed that one of the persons nabbed in connection with the bribery scandal involving Railway Minister P K Bansal’s nephew is the managing director of G G Tronics in Peenya.
“We picked him (Narayan Rao Manj unath) from his residence in Nagarabhavi based on information provided by the team from Delhi, which is carrying out the investigation,” a source said.
Mahesh Kumar, the person in the eye of a storm, was posted here as the divisional regional manager (DRM), South Western Railways, for three years from 2003 to 2005.
Sources said appointments to the post of the DRM are made for two years. They said Kumar had managed to stay here for an additional year, adding that he purchased more than one property in Bangalore and was keen on having a key position on the Railway Board.
“He initially wanted to be posted as Member (Electrical), Railway Board and when it was communicated that he could not be appointed to that post as yet, he had convinced the top brass to appoint him as Member (Staff) and also as General Manager (Western), which was done,” a source said.
But he continued lobbying for the post of Member (Electrical).
Manjunath is the Managing Director of G G Tronics, established in 1991 and located across a 50,000 sq ft area in the Peenya Industrial Area in Bangalore. His company is involved in the design and production of electronic safety embedded systems for the railway transport sector.
Its product includes approach train operated warning system for railway level crossings, sophisticated solid state signaling systems, integrated passenger information system, true colour, single & multi-section digital axle counter.
Manjunath graduated from the Visvesvaraya Technological University in 1990 and his profile on a social networking site claims that he also studied in the UK.
