Witnesses have deserted Walipur village where three people, including DSP Zia-ul-Haq, were killed a few days ago, fearing “interrogation” and “harassment” by the CBI and the probe agency has been unable to piece together the sequence of events on the day of the incident.
Now, the probe agency has sought the help of the people in cracking the killings in which muscleman politician Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya is an accused.
The CBI on Sunday issued an appeal to the people and the residents of Walipur, which falls in sacked UP minister Raja Bhaiya's Assembly constituency of Kunda, in particular, to assist the agency in a fair probe.
The CBI has set up a camp office at Kunda, that lies on the Lucknow-Allahabad Highway and a helpline number at Pratapgarh district.
In a release, the agency said the camp office had been set up at the Nagar Panchayat Bhavan at Kunda. “Any person, who wants to provide any information regarding the incidents or circumstances leading to the incidents may approach the CBI camp office,” it said.
“They (people) may also contact by phone/fax at 05341-230006 or e-mail at spculdel@cbi.gov.in,” the release said, adding that the identity of the informant would be kept secret.
