CBI to supervise NRI child custody

A Bench of Justices Tarun Chatterji and G S Singhvi while declining immediate custody of the child to either of the couple directed the CBI to supervise the custody of the child who is presently lodged in a CPWD guest house in the capital.

The Bench regretted that though it had passed a direction as early as in 2007 for tracking down the mother and son, the police machinery of the three states failed to nab the woman who was frequently changing her residence.

It was only after August 29 when the CBI took up the investigations that the mother and child were traced on October 25. Though a US court had in 2007 directed full custodial rights to the father Ravichandran in the divorce dispute, Vijayasree fled the US to India and kept dodging the police of the three states who were directed earlier by the apex court to produce the mother and child before it after the father filed a Habeas Corpus petition seeking production of his son.
