With the paucity of teachers affecting the quality of higher education, the Centre has asked universities to fill vacant faculty positions within a year.
“We have instructed universities to continuously open the process of vacancy-filling,” HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar told the Lok Sabha, replying to members’ questions on the issue.
As a part of the process, universities have been asked to review the vacancy situation “once in fifteen days” and notify them to invite applications from candidates, Javadekar said.
“It is a dynamic process. It is a walk-in interview for professors,” the minister said.
Delhi University, where 9,000 ad hoc positions were created, has already begun filling them.
“All the ad hoc and permanent positions will be filled in a year,” Javadekar said, adding that the same process is being followed with other universities.
“It is a continuous process, and now we are monitoring very strictly. So far as “non-filling of vacant faculty positions at Delhi University” is concerned, we have solved the question which was pending for 10 years. And we are tracking it every month,” the Union minister added.
