India on Monday ruled out a role for any “third party” in resolving its bilateral disputes with Pakistan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government taking a grim view of the plan of Islamabad’s envoy to New Delhi to host leaders of the separatist Hurriyat Conference on the occasion of his country’s National Day next Monday.
On a day when a terrorist attack on a police station at Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir cast its shadow on the recently initiated attempts of India and Pakistan to explore resumption of dialogue, New Delhi subtly conveyed its displeasure over renewed attempts by Islamabad to step up its engagement with separatist Hurriyat Conference factions.
“We are committed to resolving all issues, including Jammu and Kashmir, bilaterally with Pakistan through peaceful dialogue and there was never and there will never be any scope, whatsoever, for involvement of any third party,” the spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry, Syed Akbaruddin, said.
