A case of fraud has emerged in Chhattisgarh, where it was found that a man allegedly opened an account in the name of former adult actor Sunny Leone and was taking the Rs 1000 deposited in it -- under the government scheme for married women -- each month.

The Mahtari Vandan Yojana, introduced by the BJP government there, gives married women Rs 1,000 every month. NDTV reported that one of the accounts where money was being deposited was under the name of Sunny Leone.

As per the publication, the man who allegedly opened and was running the account is one Virendra Joshi, and a case has been registered against him for more action.

Officials responsible for verifying who are eligible beneficiaries are also being identified.

The fraud reportedly took place at Talur village in the Bastar region there. The District Collector has asked the Women and Child Development department to thoroughly probe the matter and seize the bank account for recovery of the money.

A political fight has also erupted between the BJP and Congress over this fraud, with the state chief of the grand old party alleging that over 50 per cent beneficiaries under the scheme are fake. To this, Deputy CM Arun Sao replied that the Congress is pained to see women in the state get monthly assistance that the grand old party's government was not able to provide.
