Sleuths from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday met top cops of Mumbai a day after the Maharashtra government handed over cases involving underworld don Chhota Rajan to the central probe agency.
The CBI, which is the nodal agency under the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime, would be investigating cases against the 55-year-old don.
The Mumbai Police have nearly 70 cases registered against Rajan, including 20 of murder, four cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, one under Prevention of Terrorism Act and over 20 cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
Some of the important cases against him are the July 11, 2011 murder of journalist-writer J Dey and May 17, 2011 Pakmodia Street firing, in which two gunmen opened fire outside the house of Iqbal Kaskar, fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother, killing his bodyguard-cum-driver Arif Syed Abu Bukha.
Besides, Rajan is also wanted in the May 21, 2015, sensational JNPT arms haul case when a cache of sophisticated weapons was found concealed in barrels full of grease at the port.
