National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked state level commissions to review existing laws for protection of child rights and suggest required changes to respective governments.
A meeting of chairpersons of state commissions was held last week.
The NCPCR reminded its counterparts in states of their responsibilities when a crime is committed against children and asked them to serve “suo motu notices in cases where violation of constitutional and legal rights of the children” are involved.
The apex body for the protection of child rights has circulated comprehensive guidelines which has been prepared with the help of UNICEF.
The guidelines are in the form of a resource book. “The book will serve as a “ready reckoner,” said the NCPCR.
“The resource book will provide a comprehensive framework for examining and responding to various child rights issues particularly those mentioned in the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005,” the NCPCR asked the state commissions.
