The CJI, who left for London on an official visit on Sunday, asked
to give his clarification to the Supreme Court collegium by October 14, official sources said.
The report accused Justice Dinakaran and his relatives of possessing more than 500 acres of land and encroaching upon a large tract of public land in Kaverirajapuram in Tiruttani taluk of Tiruvallur district.
The report also said that some commercial buildings in Chennai worth crores of rupees had been illegally acquired by his family members. The SC collegium meeting will have to be convened before Thursday, as Justice B N Agrawal is retiring on October 15.
Earlier, the collegium, in a letter to the government, had asked to put on hold the elevation of Justice Dinakaran to the apex court. The Supreme Court, however, directed the government to process the names of the other judges for appointment to the top court.
Complaints against CJ
The Tiruvallur district administration is looking into complaints by two high-level revenue officials against Justice Dinakaran for allegedly ‘preventing’ them from discharging their duties, reports DHNS from Chennai.
