The Madras High Court on Wednesday told the police that they can file a case against actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan for his comments against the government's herbal drink to combat dengue if there is prima facie evidence.

G Devarajan, a social activist and an advocate-clerk, had lodged a complaint alleging that the actor had unleashed a negative propaganda in Twitter against the herbal medicine by asking fans to avoid distributing 'Nilavembu' as it would lead to side effects.

Devarajan said he moved the court as the police failed to act on his complaint.

In his petition, the advocate also claimed that if Kamal had consumed 'Nilavembu' and sustained any side effects, he should have come out with correct details while making such remarks.

"Instead, on what basis he declared that Nilavembu Kudineer has side effects", the petitioner argued and asked the court to direct the police to book a case against the actor.

When the case came up for hearing, Justice M S Ramesh said that the police can register a case against Kamal and investigate if there is prima facie offence arrived out in the complaint.
