The controversy around “manhandling” of five Opposition woman MLAs by legislators of the Congress-led ruling coalition in Kerala’s Legislative Assembly took an uglier turn on Friday when a leader from the ruling party made derogatory statements on two of the MLAs.

K C Abu, Kozhikode District Congress Committee president, said one of the five MLAs, E S Bijimol of the CPI, was “enjoying” it when Labour Minister Shibu Baby John intercepted her during scuffles in the House on March 13. John had blocked Bijimol’s way when the MLA rushed to join other Left Democratic Front (LDF) MLAs during protests against corruption scam-hit Finance Minister K M Mani, on March 13. “The way I see it, Bijimol was enjoying it. She is not likely to raise any complaint on the incident,” Abu told reporters in Kozhikode.

The five MLAs are preparing to file police complaints over the alleged physical harassment.
