The Congress on Friday struggled to explain the reasons behind naming a judge by the Centre to probe allegations of snooping on a woman’s daily activities against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

Newly appointed party spokesperson and president of women’s wing Shobha Oza could not elaborate as she insisted: “We will wait for the government to appoint members of the committee.”

Oza, in her capacity as the Mahila Congress President, had led the attack on Modi following claims by a web portal that the then Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah kept a close watch on a young woman at the behest of the Chief Minister.

Fielding a barrage of questions, the spokesperson said all that she could do was to request the home minister to constitute the committee at the earliest.

The Union Cabinet, on December 26, had announced the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry into the snooping of a woman in Gujarat allegedly at the behest of Modi and two other cases in different states.
