The Congress on Wednesday accused West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi of constitutional overreach, and demanded their recall.

“The truth is that the BJP appointees to the office of the governor are becoming the chief conspirators and propagandists to carry forward the agenda of destroying democracy, instead of protecting the Constitution,” AICC spokesperson Sushmita Dev told reporters here.

While Tripathi is engaged in a public spat with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over communal violence in parts of the state, Kiran courted controversy by swearing-in three MLAs nominated to the Puducherry Assembly by the Centre, a task that usually comes under the domain of the Speaker.
