Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday dubbed the Congress-SP alliance an instance of “political opportunism”, even as he claimed that the BJP would get absolute majority in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters here, Jaitley attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for failure on the law and order front. “The SP has admitted gangsters into the party”, he said. He also sought to ridicule Akhilesh’s claim of development in the state and said that the chief minister was seeking votes on the basis of “incomplete” projects.

The finance minister also lashed out at his rivals for supporting black money and opposing the note ban.

“Narendra Modiji wants to curb black money... our rivals, however, opposed demonetisation instead of supporting it,” he said. The Union minister heaped praise on the Union Budget that was presented in the Lok Sabha two weeks ago, and said that the government has made an effort not to increase indirect tax.
