Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday decided to promote all the students from first to eighth standard to their next classes without examinations.

An education department official here said that the decision had been taken in view of the coronavirus outbreak. The state government has already ordered closure of all educational institutions till April two.

The official said that the examinations of these students, which were scheduled in the third and fourth week of this month, could not be held owing to the Coronavirus outbreak.

''We do not want to delay the next academic session,'' the official added. According to the official estimates there were around 1.60 crore students in the government primary and upper primary schools in the state.

The directive would apply to all government aided schools also, he said.

Sources said that some prestigious private schools were also mulling to promote the students from first to eighth standard without examinations.

''Schools have been closed till April two....it is not clear if the closure will be extended....the next academic session could be delayed if we hold examinations of these classes,'' said a member of the managing committee of a private school in the city.
