Country needs moral education: RSS vice-chief

In the wake of a recent case of sexual assault on a minor at a Bangalore school, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) deputy chief Bhaiyaji Joshi on Monday said it was time to impart moral education.

“There is need to impart Dharma Shiksha to everyone today. Education of Dharma would entail efforts to create sense of responsibility, moral and human values among people. Only study of textbooks will not suffice the need,” he said.

Humanity was impossible when teaching of Dharma had lost its place in country’s education system, the RSS leader said.

His remarks came after Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani, while addressing the function, expressed concern over incidents of sexual assault on girl students at educational institutions, taking note of the recent case.

Giving another example of “degrading human values” in society, she recalled how a doctor allegedly admitted before two undercover journalists in Maharashtra that he fed foetuses to dogs after carrying out illegal abortions.

“If people are taught Dharma along with text books, there will not be any need to recall such incidents,” Joshi said.
