Chhattisgarh records 352 new Covid-19 cases, 10 deaths

Chhattisgarh on Sunday reported 352 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 10 fatalities, taking the infection count to 9,90,675 and the toll to 13,387, a health official said. The number of recoveries reached 9,68,096 after 115 people were discharged from various hospitals while 566 others completed their home isolation stay during the day. (PTI)

A record 13.26 lakh get the jab on single day in Andhra

Andhra Pradesh achieved on Sunday what the health authorities feel could be a world record as over 13.26 lakh people were vaccinated from 6 AM to 8 PM in more than 2,200 locations in all 13 districts of the State. Covid Task Force chairman of the State K S Jawahar Reddy said it was a remarkable achievement to vaccinate 1.3 million people in a day under the mega vaccination drive. (PTI)

Assam village lights 4,444 earthen lamps for Covid-19 victims

In a unique prayer ceremony for the people who have succumbed to Covid-19, nearly 4,500 earthen lamps were lit by residents of two villages in Assam's Dibrugarh district. The Sonowal Kachari community in Naharkatia area organised the event with villagers of Na-Khotiya Sonowal gaon and Mathawoni gaon lighting the earthen lamps on both sides of the road passing through the two villages. The total 774 families in the two villages lit 4,444 lamps on Saturday night remembering the people, who have lost their lives battling the Covid-19 infection. (PTI)

China says one billion Covid-19 vaccine doses administered

China on Sunday said it has administered over one billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines in the country.

China has accelerated its pace of free Covid-19 vaccinations for the whole nation since late March and administered a billion doses by Saturday, the National Health Commission (NHC) said.

The NHC, however, did not say how many people had been vaccinated. (PTI)

Covid-19: Haryana to hold mega vaccination drive on International Yoga Day

A mega anti-Covid vaccination drive will be conducted in Haryana on the International Yoga Day on Monday, the state’s Health Minister Anil Vij has said.

A target has been set to vaccinate 2.5 lakh people during this inoculation drive, Vij told reporters in Ambala on Sunday. (PTI)

Delta variant behind Covid-19 resurge in Lisbon area

Over half the new Covid-19 cases being reported in the Lisbon region are of the more infectious Delta coronavirus variant, preliminary data showed on Sunday as Portuguese authorities scramble to curb a worrying spike in infections.

Ricardo Jorge, the national health institute, said the Delta variant, first identified in India, represented over 60% of cases in the Lisbon area though still less than 15 per centin the northern half of Portugal.

All above 45 years in J-K will be vaccinated by June end: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday said all people above 45 years in Jammu and Kashmir will be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of this month.

According to a Personnel Ministry statement, the minister has been informed that with the Centre's 'free vaccine for all' impetus to the countrywide vaccination drive from June 21, over 30 per cent of beneficiaries in the 18 to 45 years age group in Jammu and Kashmir would receive anti-coronavirus vaccines. Andhra Pradesh has reported5,646 new Covid-19 cases, 7,772 recoveries and 50 deaths.

The Haryana government on Sunday extended the Covid-19 lockdown in the state by another week till June 28, but eased restrictions imposed on weddings and funerals, and allowed corporate offices to operate with full attendance.

According to an order issued by Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan, up to 50 guests can now attend weddings and funerals or cremations, up from 21 earlier, subject to strict observance of Covid-19-appropriate behaviour and social distancing. (PTI)

China says 1 billion vaccine doses administered

China has announced that more than 1 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine had been administered in the country.

The National Health Commission did not say Sunday how many people had been vaccinated. As elsewhere, most of the vaccines in China are given in two doses.

The pace of vaccinations has accelerated in the country of 1.4 billion people after a slow start. (PTI)
