CPI(M) flays hike in petrol prices

The party noted that public sector oil companies hiked petrol prices by 70 to 72 paise per litre, less than a month after raising it by 27 paise in September."The price of petrol has already been increased by one rupee per litre in the space of three weeks," the party's Politburo said in a statement here.

While strongly opposing such "recurrent increase" in the prices of petrol, the CPI(M) said that by deregulating the petrol pricing, the government has "opened the way for successive hikes in petrol prices...There is no transparency in the pricing decision making."

"The rise in petrol prices will further fuel inflation. The people who are suffering from continuous food inflation will be more burdened," the party said
